This is the Raffles Place MRT Station (NS26, EW14), an interchange node of the North-South Line and East-West Line mass transit rail systems.
It is located along Raffles Place, underground an open-air plaza surrounded by Battery Road, Market Street, Malacca Street and Cecil Street. The station is located in the heart of the business and financial district of Singapore. Most of the office buildings in the area are skyscrapers housing banks, trading and stock-broking firms. insurance companies as well as other businesses like regional representative offices and airlines.
The station itself is an underground maze-like complex of walkways lined with small retail shops. Major landmarks in the area are the Lau Pasat (Old Market) food centre, famous for its night-time satay stalls, and the Singapore River, along which the pub/restaurant-lined Boat Quay entertainment area is located.
