This map shows the mainly residential district of East Coast Road, Telok Kurau and Marine Parade. The first two are a mix of old terrace houses, bungalows and shop-houses, many of which have been converted to eateries and restaurants, and even budget/boutique hotels and hostels. There are also walk-up apartments and condominiums to be found in this area - an eclectic neighbourhood where newer 21st-century ones may sit comfortably ensconced between much older half-century old buildings !
In the left-half of the map, shop-house eateries and restaurants line both flanks of East Coast Road - from Chinese to Peranakan, from halal to Italian to local fare; laksa or chicken rice, Brazilian Churrascaria and wagyu burgers, you'll find just about anything to tickle your palate and satiate your appetite here. This is truly a microcosm of Singapore's food culture. Joo Chiat Road intersects East Coast Road near the middle left edge of the map. Branching off East Coast Road are Sea Avenue, Chapel Road, Jago Close and Kuo Chuan Avenue.
The upper-right quadrant of the map is a mostly private residential area, a continuation of Telok Kurau estate (in the north) : Lorong M/N Telok Kurau, Telok Kurau Road, Karikai Lane, St. Patrick's Road, Jalan Rendang and Jln Tenggiri.
South of Marine Parade Road, in the lower part and lower-right quadrant of the map is Marine Parade town, a mainly HDB town built on reclaimed land. Roads here include Marine Drive and Marine Crescent. The Marine Parade Community Club and the Marine Parade Community Library is located southwest of the junction of Marine Parade Road and Still Road. Opposite it, across Still Road, is Tao Nan School, at 49, Marine Crescent, Singapore 449761.
