Dr Sun Yat Sen (孙中山 / 孙文), a medical doctor, championed the idea of a democratic Chinese Republic and is widely acknowledged as the father of modern China (post-Qing dynasty era). In 1911, the revolutionaries succeeded in overthrowing the Qing government and Dr Sun became the first Provisional President of the Republic of China. Today, the villa/memorial is a National Monument that is owned and managed by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI).
