This map shows an area dominated by medical facilities and shopping/commercial/office centres. The Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) is located in the middle of this area, bounded by the roads Jalan Tan Tock Seng and Sinaran Drive. The Hospital campus also houses the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) and the Johns Hopkins Singapore International Medical Centre (IMC), a private centre managed by the US' John Hopkins Hospital group and Singapore's National Healthcare Group (NHG). Shopping malls and office complexes are found clustered in the areas around the junction of Thomson Road and Moulmein Road / Newton Road. In the bottom (south) is Goldhill Plaza and Goldhill Shopping Centre. To the west (left) is Revenue House, which houses the government's Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) - essentially the nation's income tax collection agency. To the north-east (upper-right) of the junction, above the underground subway Novena MRT Station (NS20), are shopping malls Novena Square, Velocity (an annexe of Novena Square) and Square 2.

North of Square 2 shopping centre is the Church of St. Alphonsus
(popularly known as Novena Church) located at address: 300 Thomson Road, Singapore 307653, between Jalan Novena and Novena Terrace. Novena Church is a popular Catholic church and contributes to the weekend people and vehicular crowd at this part of Thomson Road.

Other roads seen in this area are, at the top-left, Novena Rise, Gentle Drive and Jalan Merlimau; and at the top-right, Bassein Road, Akyab Road, Minbu Road, Irrawaddy Road, Shan Road, Prome Road, Bhamo Road and Martaban Road. The last five roads, Irrawaddy Road to Martaban Road, leads connect to Balestier Road.
